Roots and Shoots is a network for positive change with many tens of thousands member in over 120 countries founded by renowned primatologist, environmentalist and humanitarian, Dr. Jane Goodall. She believes that that “young people, when informed and empowered, when they realize that what they do truly makes a difference, can indeed change the world…” At TLT, we couldn’t agree more with the Roots and Shoots mission, “To foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs and to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment.”
Beginning in 2016, TLT students will be making a difference through the Roots and Shoots program, offered as an after school club in both the Junior and Senior Schools.
Young people are urged to identify problems in their communities and take action. The Roots and Shoots program—dedicated to inspiring tomorrow's leaders today—not only motivates young people to learn about pertinent issues facing our local and global communities, but helps them actually design, lead and implement their own projects as a means of solving them. Programs such as Roots and Shoots help our students to develop the courage and mindset to make a difference, one selfless act at a time.
